Introduce yourself

03-Apr-2026 10:52 AM

Hi people! Since we're starting a brand new forum and hoping to gather new members even if they haven't taken part in the ocarina community before, it would be good to have a dedicated thread where people can introduce themselves.

Tell us who you are and tell us a little about your relationship with the ocarina. Help us get to know you a little.

Welcome to the new Pure Ocarinas Forum!

Hello! I first picked up an ocarina in 2015, using my first ever paycheck. I have been practicing on and off since then, and have made bigger strides in the past year.

My musical interests include game and modern media music, as well as folk tunes and themes. I chose the ocarina since it can be travelled well and pack light.

Other interests include martial arts, crafts, and games (making and playing).

Hi all! I'm a relative newbie in the ocarina world, having bought my first ocarinas not even a year ago. Prior to that I played many other woodwind instruments with my main interest being double reeds and fipple flutes. I studied oboe and recorder at university with a focus on historical research.

I happened to stumble across a reference to the ocarina's popularity in late 19th century Vienna while researching the csakan (a relative of the recorder popular in the earlier part of the century) and that led me to start researching the ocarina and its repertoire in the 19th and early 20th centuries. While that is my main interest, I'm also very interested in the idea of developing the ocarina into a fully fledged modern instrument held to the same standards as other classical instruments.

I'm looking forward to sharing and discussing my research and ideas here!

Hi!

My name's Alejandro and I'm from Spain. I'm not a professional or competent musician in any way, but I will try untill I become one. I'm interested in playing solo or in ensembles (in person or virtual ;] ) and maybe making ocarinas as a hobby.

Hello :)

My name is Sander, and I have been a fan of the ocarina for nearly 15 years when I recieved my first 12-hole ocarina as a christmasgift from my parents in 2011. Originally, I was introduced to the instrument through The Legend of Zelda as many others, and the ocarina I recieved was an old TNG OoT replica (that plays surprisingly well). In more recent times, I've expanded my collection with professional instruments, as well as practicing more seriously.

I am originally a classically trained violinist, with it as my main instrument during my bachelors in musicology. I am currently employed full time as a kantor/organist in the norwegian church after finishing my studies in choral conducting, composition and churchmusic.

I now very frequently use the ocarina as a means to explore modern takes on norwegian folk music, a wonderful side instrument to help maintain my drive to explore music outside of my place of employment, and to compose and arrange for this wonderful instrument with its unique sound.

Ocarina to the people!
